各位親愛的同事和同學，

在現階段加入[恆生管理學院]是一件令人振奮的事， 因為作為一所新的及充滿活力的院校，[恆生管理學院]為大家提供了獨特的機遇。每一天，我們都在成長中， 在發展中 – 當我們設計推出新的學位課程，招收新的同學，聘請新的老師，建築新的教學大樓，甚至為了如何建設我們的未來，在討論過程中激烈爭辯 –事實上，我們都正在塑造[恆生管理學院]將來成為一所私立大學的初型!

問題是, 我們應如何塑造學院的未來, 我們應如何幫助學院建設一個美好的將來,成為一所在香港甚至亞太區有領導性地位的私立大學? 沒有人相信這會是一件容易的事, 但它挑戰我們思想怎樣才能成為一所出色的私立大學; 它挑戰我們為了學院的未來貢獻自己最好的力量; 新舊同事們合作成為一個出色的團隊,教育我們年青的一代; 願意為了更美好的將來而改變, 更重要的是,堅持為了教育的理想和素質, 並不妥協!

With the move from elite to mass higher education in Hong Kong and many other parts of the world in the last two decades, it is observed that concern over quality, efficiency and good management in higher education has given rise to an audit and assessment culture in universities, with the aim of monitoring performance, ensuring quality and exercising control. However, little attention has been paid to the potential conflict this brings to the “traditional academic values” of universities in upholding autonomy, freedom and collegial rule. My research interests are in the areas of modern university management, balance between the “managerial values” and “traditional academic values”; university leadership; “academic-administrative interface” and the blending of “professional and managerial perspectives” in managing universities.
