I would like to greet you with a personal observation on two important developments of the 21st century. Interconnected and symbiotic, they are globalization and knowledge-based economies, which affect every facet of our lives, and provide opportunities for the aspiring and critical young minds to rise to their promises and create their future through the education system.
As an international financial hub, there is an increasing need to nurture talents and leaders with a vision so that Hong Kong can enhance its competitiveness and maintain its leading edge in the international arena. It is with this in mind, Hang Seng Management College (HSMC) was set up to provide quality degree programmes in meeting the needs and demands for the further development of a knowledge-based economy and the challenges of the ever-changing economic, social and political world.
The establishment of Hang Seng Management College in September 2010 was built upon the strength of HSSC. Over the past 30 years, HSSC has been a model of pedagogical distinction, nurturing competent, caring and talented students with business expertise and a sense of social responsibility. With our traditional excellence in business education and our commitment to quality teaching, the degree programmes offered by HSMC will continue to nurture excellent graduates to meet the growing needs of the business community in Hong Kong.
HSMC has a team of prominent and experienced academic staff dedicated to teaching and developing the degree programmes. On the hardware, the College has successfully acquired the Government six plots of land adjoining the current main building. We are proud to say that the new Academic Building was completed within a year’s time in September 2012, ready for the commencement of the 2012/13 academic year. The Academic Building comprises Library of 4,000m2, Conference Hall with simultaneous interpretation facilities, Trading Floor, Wealth Management Training Centre, and the like. With the completion of the Academic Building, we now stride on the construction of the Sports and Student Amenities Centre, and the Academic and Administrative Building. The Amenities Centre includes a 6-lane indoor swimming pool, Sports Hall, Gymnasium, canteen and restaurant, offices and rooms for student unions and associations, whereas the Academic and Administrative Building includes Radio Broadcasting Studio, Video Editing Training Centre, computer laboratories, Lecture Hall, staff offices, and so on. With the expected completion of the Sports and Student Amenities Centre, and the Academic and Administrative Building in the 3rd quarter of 2013, the College will be able to provide a strong academic hub with state-of-the-art learning, teaching and research facilities for the collaborative learning, dynamic professional exchanges and all-round development of students.
