Programme Information

The BA-CHI Degree Programme provides students with varied and in-depth training in both academic and practical skills. The Programme covers the basic knowledge of Chinese philology, classics, and literature, while it also emphasises practical skills such as Chinese writing for various purposes, oral communication, and Putonghua. It embodies the idea of applying the traditional wisdom of Chinese to the modern society, and it focuses on the transfer of both academic and practical knowledge. It aims to guide students on their way to be responsible and competent talents who are sought after by employers.

This is a four-year study programme. Students will be required to complete at least 40 modules (120 credits) over the four years. Besides the graduation requirements stipulated by the College, students must attain Third Class Grade A in Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi (PSC) in order to be eligible for the BA-CHI Degree.

Programme Objectives:

  • PO1:   Through incorporating multi-disciplinary elements, the programme encourages students to think independently and creatively, and to become autonomous learners for life-long learning;
  • PO2:   To equip students with interpersonal and communication skills in preparation for them to take up leading roles in their careers;
  • PO3:   To nurture students into upright citizens who are ready to shoulder responsibilities for their profession and society;
  • PO4:   To encourage students to concern themselves with global issues and to appreciate the refined elements of local culture, through which they can apply their knowledge to the proper context;
  • PO5:   To teach students comprehensive and practical skills about language so as to enhance their language abilities and boost their confidence;
  • PO6:  To increase their cultural literacy through consolidating their knowledge of Chinese language and literature;
  • PO7:  To equip students with analytical and problem-solving skills and guide them in exploring their creativity, through which they will become competent in pursuing an academic path or a career related to language and creation.

  • PILO6:   Command the knowledge and theories of Chinese language, literature and cultures, and apply them in their daily life, work, and relevant academic research;
