The Department of Computing has the mission to provide high quality education in IT to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world. The Department plays a role to support the teaching of Bachelor Degree Programmes and Associate Degree Programme of the College, offering modules such as Information Systems in Business and E-Commerce.

The Department of Computing aims to provide students with Information Technology knowledge and skills to solve problems and meet the challenges in their future careers.

The Department targets to:

• provide students with the opportunities to acquire knowledge of information systems, electronic commerce and information security; and
• enhance students’ ability to use information technology effectively for learning and communication.

We regularly organize IT workshops, which are specifically designed to help students develop IT competence.

In order to ensure that degree graduates are equipped with IT proficiency, they need to pass an IT proficiency test for graduation.

IT Proficiency Programmme

In order to fulfill the HSMC IT requirement, students are required to take and pass Information Technology Proficiency Test (IT Test) for graduation. Students should be enrolled in the IT test in their first or second year. If the student still has not passed the IT Test, he/she should take it again until he/she gets a pass.

The IT proficiency test requires students to:

1. demonstrate a basic understanding of IT knowledge such as computer system, network and the Internet and Internet security;
2. use common application software such as Word Processor, Spreadsheet and Presentation Software;
3. show an awareness of issues on computer ethics and copyrights.
