Appeal Procedure of Examinations

Top

Students who wish to object a decision made by a Department or by the HSMC Assessment and Examinations Committee or other Units concerning assessment can follow the below appeal procedure:

  1. Complete the appeal application form
  2. Submit the appeal application form to the Appeals Committee within one week of receiving the decision in question.  Cogent reasons, and, where appropriate, evidence are required together with the appeal application form for justification.
  3. Pay the appeal fee of HK$150 per module

Appeal shall not necessarily result in an upgrade of assessment.  The appeal results will be released to students in writing within two weeks from the closing date of appeal application.  If the appeal results in a change of grade, the appeal fee would be refunded to students.

 

Bad Weather arrangement

a) Tropical Cyclone warning

  • If Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1 or 3 is hoisted on a working day, classes / examinations will be held as scheduled.
  • If a Signal No. 8 or above is hoisted or announcement is made by the Hong Kong Observatory that a Signal No. 8 or above is likely to be hoisted within the next two hours at anytime during the following time/period, arrangements for classes / examinations will be as follows:

If you are NOT in HSMC:

Classes arrangement

Between 7:00am and 9:00am

All morning classes (i.e. 9:00am – 1:30pm) will be cancelled.

Between 11:30am and 1:30pm

All afternoon classes (i.e. 1:30pm or after) will be cancelled.


Time

Examination arrangement

Between 7:00am and 9:00am

All morning examinations will be postponed.

Between 11:30am and 1:30pm

All afternoon examinations (i.e. 1:30pm or after) will be postponed.

Postponement of examinations will be announced by the Registry. Notices for revised arrangement will also be posted on the notice boards and College Website of HSMC.

If you are ALREADY in HSMC:

Classes arrangement

Between 9:00am and 6:00pm

Arrangement will be made by the College to release students to go home as soon as weather and traffic conditions are safe.

Examination arrangement

During an examination

Examination will continue unless otherwise announced by the College.

 

b) Rainstorm Warning

  • If an Amber Rainstorm Warning is issued on a working day, classes / examinations will be held as scheduled.
  • If a Red Rainstorm Warning is issued, classes / examinations will be held as scheduled unless the College announces the suspension of these activities.
  • If the Black Rainstorm Warning is issued, the following arrangement should be noted:

If you are NOT in HSMC:

Classes arrangement

Warning issued between 7:00am and 9:00am

All morning classes (i.e. 9:00am – 1:30pm) will be cancelled.

Warning issued between 9:00am and 6:00pm

All classes are held as scheduled.
* If you are not in HSMC, students are advised to stay in a safe place for their safety until the warning has been cancelled or the weather and traffic conditions has improved before returning to HSMC for classes.


Time

Examinations arrangement

Warning issued between 7:00am and 9:00am

All morning examinations scheduled will be postponed.

Warning issued between 11:30am and 1:30pm

Examinations scheduled after 1:30pm will be postponed.

  • Note: If the Black Rainstorm Warning is cancelled before 11:30am, all examinations scheduled at or after 1:30pm will be held as scheduled.

If you are ALREADY in HSMC:

  • If the Black Rainstorm Warning is issued during office hours when classes / examinations are already in progress, all classes / examinations will continue unless otherwise announced by the College.
  • If the warning is still in force when classes / examinations end, students are advised to stay on campus for their safety until the warning has been cancelled or the weather and traffic conditions have improved.
