School of Humanities


Department of Computing offers a Bachelor of Arts in Applied and Human-Centred Computing (BA-AHCC) Programme. BA-AHCC is an applied computing programme, in which students are given solid IT training, emphasising programming skills and practical work. At the same time, students are taught to solve problems with a human-centred focus, which could give their solutions a competitive edge. The programme is therefore multi-disciplinary, spanning courses in computing, arts, humanities and business. The programme objectives are:

  • To develop students’ creativity, critical thinking, analytical ability and problem-solving skills in a multi-disciplinary environment;
  • To cultivate students’ interpersonal and communication skills in preparation for them to take up leading roles in their careers;
  • To encourage students to learn independently and think critically, and to become autonomous learners for life-long learning;
  • To provide students with a solid foundation of the conceptual, theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of software development, supplemented with knowledge from arts, humanities and business;
  • To develop students’ ability to produce efficient and reliable software solutions;
  • To develop students’ ability to produce human-centred user experience designs with visual appeal, functionality and user-friendliness; and
  • To enhance students’ awareness of art, culture and marketing in user experience designs.

Besides, the Department of Computing has the mission to provide high quality education in IT to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world. The Department plays a role to support the teaching of Bachelor Degree Programmes of the College, offering modules such as Information Systems in Business and E-Commerce. The Department of Computing aims to provide students with Information Technology knowledge and skills to solve problems and meet the challenges in their future careers. The Department targets to:

  • Provide students with the opportunities to acquire knowledge of information systems, electronic commerce and information security; and
  • Enhance students’ ability to use information technology effectively for learning and communication.
